Relief Veterinary Services in the
Myrtle Beach, SC Area
My name is Dr. Leslie Mucci, and I am a small animal veterinarian offering relief veterinary services to Coastal South Carolina veterinary hospitals. I have particular interests in soft tissue surgery, ultrasound, endocrinology, and public education.
Achieve Wellness and Happiness in Your Job
I was inspired to take control of my career and happiness. I became a relief veterinarian and regained my passion for veterinary medicine while learning how to navigate new clinics and different management styles. Exposure to new clinics and personalities has given me insight into what makes a good clinic run. I encounter different software systems, scheduling, hospital design, and client communication tools in varied hospital settings.
Bringing Coastal Vibes to Veterinary Medicine
Here are my latest articles about my adventures in vet med:
Summer Break
Today was a long day… Our daughter is fighting a cold and has had a little cough that she just couldn’t kick yesterday. It kept her (and us) up most of the night. Today she moved up to a new class at Preschool: new teachers, new routines, new places and a few familiar...
10 Things I’ve Learned in 10 Years Since Graduating from Vet School
You have to set boundaries. After only 5 years in practice I was facing burnout. I was giving too much of myself to my job and not enough to myself and my family. It was affecting me physically. I was forced to make a change in my career path and lifestyle change...
What’s in the Bag?
Hopping from clinic to clinic might sound stressful to some veterinarians, but most relief vets enjoy the challenge and change in routine. If your clinic has had a relief doctor fill in you might have noticed they usually have a briefcase, large tote bag, or large...
To the Hills and Back: Part 2
On our way out of Dahlonega we took Hwy 60 through my husband’s childhood hometown of Gainesville, GA. We drove by his old house and through the neighborhood. So many stories! We continued the drive through Atlanta and into Alabama. The same drive I took to get to...
To the Hills and Back
This coastal vet traveled to the mountains and “the Plains” for vacation at the end of March. While, I do love spending my time off with family at the beach, this trip away from sea level was beautiful in its own right. The our trip began with a stop at my childhood...
We lost another one…
**Trigger Warning** Mental health discussion should be a priority in veterinary medicine, yet it still is difficult for most to talk about. Recent deaths in the veterinary community have brought this topic to light again. This past week we lost two more veterinarians....
What is…Cancer sucks?
The recent announcement by Alex Trebek that he has stage 4 pancreatic cancer, hit me harder than I thought it would. The wounds of losing my dad and sister-in-law to cancers last year are still very fresh and somehow this news scraped at the new skin. I do not know...
6 Traits That Make a Good Relief Vet
First of all, what is a relief vet? Relief veterinarians are fully licensed veterinarians that fill in for other veterinarians when they need to be away from the office. This might include vacations, family emergencies or taking a sabbatical. There are many reasons...

Hello! I’m new to this blogging thing but have been wanting to for awhile. I am a really good procrastinator, and apparently you can’t procrastinate when blogging. I have finally gotten the motivation to take this leap. Hopefully my content will inspire, educate and...
